RCare is a provider of wireless nurse call and personal emergency response systems for the entire spectrum of eldercare and senior living. RCare components integrate into a variety of healthcare communication systems to create efficient and verifiable responses to medical emergencies. RCare works together with distribution partners to build individualized, flexible and seamless systems to enhance both caregiving and resident quality of life.

Situation brief

RCare had a short notice opportunity to begin selling its Cube Platform product line into the European market through a distributor in Denmark, and quickly discovered barriers such as export compliance, product certifications, laboratory testing, and language translation that would need to be completed for their success. Through a referral from Greater Rochester Enterprise, HTR implemented its Export Assistance Program pilot to understand the situation and bring together a team of expert consultants and service providers to provide solutions to the specific issues of entering the global marketplace.

Solution

HTR arranged for Towpath Group International to provide targeted assistance that included a draft sales and distribution agreement, customized export manual, staff training, and documentation required to export the RCare product to the target markets in full compliance with US and international laws.

HTR established a contract vehicle with Intertek to conduct laboratory testing required for radio frequency products under the relevant CE Mark standards.

HTR contracted with Advanced Language Translation to provide translations for code, user interfaces, documentation, and promotional materials in seven languages.

HTR connected RCare with Global NY and grants that could provide financial assistance for travel to meet its European customers to finalize the deal.

Along the way, HTR provided or arranged for grant assistance that saved the company over 20% of the service costs.

Results

  • By teaming with HTR and its partners, RCare was able to successfully introduce its product line into Europe to meet its customer’s timeline and establish a foothold for future growth in a complete all European compliance measures in six months.
